Its clearest distinction within the renewed trio is family and active use. HYPE Game Center, workshops, pool activity and sport give school-age children and teenagers reasons to engage without requiring a huge slide complex. Parents of very young children must notice the missing Mini Club, which is a meaningful difference from the four larger family ships.

The comprehensive refit refreshed all cabins and major public spaces, renewed the Theatrium, introduced or updated dining concepts and strengthened beauty, wellness and family provision. Yachtclub, Rossini Restaurant & Lounge, Hair & Nail Spa and wellness suites are among the changes that affect daily use rather than simply appearance.

The Sphinx layout is centred on the Theatrium, creating a clear social heart and short routes between entertainment, bars and dining. The ship has fewer separate lounges than a larger resort vessel. That makes each space more important and can concentrate passengers around popular times. The correct comparison is therefore not “new versus old”. It is manageable renewed ship versus larger resort ship. Families who prioritise ports, sport and togetherness may prefer AIDAbella. Families buying for maximum water hardware should choose AIDAnova or AIDAcosma.

The 2,300 m² spa and updated beauty services give adults a credible escape from the family programme. Wellness suites and Hair & Nail Spa broaden the paid offer, while the general ship remains informal. Suite guests gain access to a dedicated Sky Deck, but most passengers should not treat that as a general adults-only area.

Request details of the selected adapted cabin, bathroom, doors and balcony access. Port operations may be the harder part of the holiday, so ask how gangways, tenders and coaches work on the itinerary rather than focusing only on the ship.

AIDAbella’s scale supports itinerary-led European and longer cruising. It can reach ports and create a rhythm that feels less ship-dominated than the largest AIDA vessels. The refit makes it reasonable to pay more than for an unmodernised sister, but the route must still justify the total cost.
Compare AIDAbella with AIDAluna and AIDAdiva on cabin, route and travel logistics. The three are close enough that a better itinerary should outweigh small differences in venue names.

Book AIDAbella for school-age families and active adults who want a renewed product in an easy-to-learn ship. It is particularly attractive when the itinerary is port-rich and the family does not need a nursery. The modernisation removes many age-based objections without turning the ship into a mega-resort.
Choose AIDAnova or AIDAcosma for maximum slides and indoor family hardware, AIDAprima or AIDAperla for a covered Beach Club and Mini Club, and AIDAluna or AIDAdiva when their route or price is better. AIDAbella is a strong fit, not an automatic fleet winner.
AIDAbella versus AIDAluna and AIDAdiva
The three renewed first-generation sisters now need to be compared by emphasis rather than age alone. AIDAbella has a particularly useful family and activity case after its 2026 modernisation, while AIDAluna can appeal more strongly to adults who value its completed 2025 refit and itinerary mix. AIDAdiva remains a sound all-round starting point for travellers who want the same manageable basic scale.
None of the three becomes a small version of AIDAnova after refurbishment.
