Carnival Firenze is the newest of Carnival’s two Italian Style conversions, but newer does not mean radically different. It is a close relative of Carnival Venezia, built for Costa and redesigned for Carnival with familiar food, comedy and youth programming layered onto ornate Florence-inspired rooms.
The decisive question for British passengers is not which Italian ship has the prettier atrium. It is whether the itinerary justifies the journey. Long Beach adds a long flight, an eight-hour time difference and a hotel stay, yet it opens the Mexican Riviera. Later repositioning and East Coast schedules make the ship unusually varied, so deployment must be checked for the exact date.
Carnival Firenze is a lively, visually distinctive ship whose value depends heavily on itinerary. It suits travellers prepared to build a California or wider Americas holiday around the cruise. For a simple Caribbean trip from the UK, Venezia’s New York access or a Florida-based Vista ship is usually easier.

From Costa Firenze to Carnival Firenze
The 49-day 2024 conversion in Cadiz changed branding, food, bars and entertainment without stripping away the ship’s original identity. Piazza Duomo, Michelangelo and Medici dining rooms, Teatro Rosso and the Florence references remain central. This gives Firenze more visual personality than a standard fleet sister.
Carnival’s formula is still dominant in how the ship operates. Dress is casual, announcements and entertainment are energetic, comedy matters and the daily rhythm is built for a broad American family audience. Do not book expecting Costa service or a premium Italian cruise experience simply because the rooms look European.
Cabins, Terrazza and location
The cabin stock is broad but conventional. Standard rooms can represent better value than themed categories because most of the ship’s visual impact sits outside the cabin. Long corridors and full-capacity lift demand make a midship position useful for anyone with reduced stamina.
Terrazza cabins give access to Terrazza Moda, an aft deck with lounging and whirlpools. All occupants must be 12 or older. That age threshold creates a calmer environment but does not guarantee adult quiet. Compare the premium with a well-located ordinary balcony before assuming exclusivity is worth the price.
Dining and what is genuinely included
Included food is one of Carnival Firenze’s best arguments. Main dining, buffet choices, burgers, pizza, tacos and other casual outlets allow a varied week without mandatory supplements. The practical weakness is timing: popular included venues can attract queues and some outlets keep limited hours.
Il Viaggio offers the clearest paid expression of the Italian Style concept. One speciality reservation can add variety, but buying multiple meals before understanding the included choice is unnecessary. Review the current sailing because pricing and whether particular lunch services are complimentary can change.
Entertainment without a marquee ride
Firenze has WaterWorks, SportSquare, mini golf, theatre shows, comedy and late-night music. It does not have BOLT, SkyRide or Panorama’s Sky Zone. Carnival’s own regional material has sometimes carried inconsistent attraction lists, so the deck plan and ship-specific page matter more than a generic fleet comparison.

Two pools remain the most obvious capacity weakness. On a warm Mexican sea day, the decks can feel busy and loungers become competitive. Serenity is the true 21+ retreat. Terrazza Moda is 12+, which helps families with teenagers but should not be sold as an adult-only pool club.
Accessibility, laundry and a long-haul cruise
Accessible cabins vary by category and equipment. Obtain written confirmation of the selected room, bathroom arrangement and route to essential venues. The distance from cabin to dining room matters on a ship this long, and lift pressure can be significant after theatre shows and in port.
There is no passenger self-service launderette on Firenze. Valet laundry is available, but that has cost and timing implications on longer itineraries. British passengers combining the cruise with California or South America should plan clothing around this rather than assuming a washing room exists.
Long Beach and changing deployment
Long Beach is straightforward once in Southern California but demanding from the UK. Direct London to Los Angeles flights help, yet airport traffic and jet lag make a pre-cruise hotel essential. A wider Los Angeles stay can make the journey feel worthwhile; flying only for a short cruise is harder to justify.
Carnival has scheduled Firenze beyond a single permanent pattern, including later South America, Miami and Manhattan voyages. That variety is a strength, but it makes generic advice unreliable. The final Carnival Firenze verdict
Firenze is good when route and ship reinforce each other. A Mexican Riviera or repositioning sailing gains from the lively deck programme and unusual interiors. The ship is less persuasive when chosen purely because it is newer than Venezia.
For most UK travellers, compare it directly with Panorama from Long Beach and Venezia from New York. The best choice is the one whose homeport, itinerary and signature facilities will actually be used, not the one with the freshest conversion date.
