Carnival Glory has become the most convincing short-cruise family ship in the Conquest class. A 21-day dry dock in 2024 refreshed public areas and youth facilities, further work in May 2026 added a non-smoking casino and new Club O2, and the current top deck includes a substantial WaterWorks park. That combination is stronger than its 2003 launch date suggests.
The ship still needs to be judged in context. Glory operates short Bahamas cruises from Port Canaveral, where rapid passenger turnover and weekend demand create a lively atmosphere. It is not a restrained resort or a ship with dozens of restaurants. Its value lies in combining a practical family product with Orlando, Kennedy Space Center or a wider Florida trip.
Carnival Glory is the best Conquest-class choice for a short family cruise from Port Canaveral. Its 2024 dry dock, 2026 casino and teen-club work, and expanded WaterWorks give it a stronger top-deck offer than Carnival Conquest. It remains an older ship with limited restaurant depth and a high-energy short-cruise atmosphere, so it works best alongside an Orlando or Space Coast holiday rather than as the sole reason for a UK trip.

Refurbishments and current condition
Carnival Glory’s April 2024 dry dock lasted 21 days and brought a revised casino layout, renewed decor and furnishings, Heroes Tribute Bar & Lounge, Dreams Studio, spa improvements, redesigned Camp Ocean and a refreshed arcade. The ship then received additional in-service work in May 2026, including a separate non-smoking casino and a new Club O2 for teenagers.
These changes target spaces that influence daily satisfaction. Youth rooms, casino areas, furnishings and the spa receive heavy use, so the work is more relevant than a superficial hull refresh. Cabins remain rooted in an older design generation, and condition can still vary, but the public product is competitive for a short voyage.
WaterWorks changes the family comparison
Glory’s current WaterWorks is the decisive difference from Carnival Conquest. AquaTunnel, the classic Twister, twin racing slides and a large tipping bucket create a genuine family water park rather than one standalone slide. Children can spend meaningful time there, which matters on short itineraries with one or two sea-day blocks.
The area is exposed to weather and can be crowded. Height restrictions apply, queues develop and not every child will use the larger slides. Families should still assess youth clubs, pool depth, cabin arrangement and dining rather than treating WaterWorks as the whole product. Even so, Glory is the strongest top-deck choice among the older short-cruise sisters.
Layout, decor and crowd flow
The ship’s central atrium and long promenade connect the casino, bars, comedy, piano and nightclub spaces. The themed interiors are colourful and deliberately theatrical. They have more personality than a modern beige hotel, though passengers who prefer restrained design may find them dated.
Congestion is most obvious around the buffet, elevators and theatre exits. Port Canaveral departures can carry many families, and a full ship feels busy. Learn the quieter staircases, eat outside peak times and use the open deck routes when possible. The 110,000 GT scale is still easier to navigate than the newest 180,000 GT ships.
Cabins and family accommodation
Standard rooms offer useful storage and generally sensible floor area. Interiors suit passengers who spend little time inside, ocean-view cabins can be good value for families, and balconies provide a private escape from crowded public decks. Suites add space but do not create a separate premium experience.
Glory predates Family Harbor and the flexible family accommodation found on newer classes. Check every berth arrangement, especially upper Pullmans and sofa beds, and consider whether children can reach the bathroom safely at night. Avoid cabins directly beneath the Lido deck or above late-night venues unless price outweighs noise risk.
Dining over a short voyage
Included choices such as Guy’s Burger Joint, BlueIguana Cantina, pizza, deli food, buffet stations and the two main dining rooms provide enough variety for three or four nights. Emerald Room Steakhouse is the clearest paid upgrade. The ship’s smaller restaurant portfolio is less restrictive on a short cruise than it would be across two weeks.
Peak-time queues can undermine the casual experience. Families should divide tasks rather than hold a large table while one person collects every meal. The redesigned Camp Ocean and 2026 Club O2 strengthen provision across age bands. Circle C serves younger teenagers, while the arcade, mini golf, pools and WaterWorks give families alternatives to organised clubs. Parents should check sign-in rules and meeting arrangements rather than assuming children can move independently.
Adults have Serenity, Alchemy Bar, Heroes Tribute Bar, comedy, the piano bar, casino and late-night music. The non-smoking casino gives an alternative to the main gaming floor. Serenity can still hear general deck activity, so it should be viewed as a quieter zone rather than an isolated sanctuary.
Accessibility and shore-day reality
Accessible cabins are not interchangeable. Obtain specific details about bathroom transfer space, shower seating, thresholds, bed access and storage for scooters or wheelchairs. Ask Carnival Guest Access about evacuation support, dining routes and whether the selected cabin remains practical when extra berths are open.
Bahamas itineraries often centre on beaches, private destinations and short port calls. Sand, tendering, shuttle vehicles and excursion steps can be more limiting than the ship itself. Celebration Key has purpose-built facilities, but passengers should still review distances and transport arrangements before travel.
Port Canaveral from the UK
Port Canaveral is useful for an Orlando combination but is not beside Orlando International Airport. A private transfer, shuttle or hire car is required, and traffic can be unpredictable. Flying in on embarkation morning is especially unwise for a short cruise because a missed connection can consume half the holiday.
A sensible plan places the cruise before or after theme parks, Kennedy Space Center or a beach stay. Families should compare hotel parking, cruise transfers, luggage limits and car-seat requirements. The cruise-only fare may be low, but Florida accommodation and attraction tickets can make the overall trip substantial.
