Oceania Marina is not a ship that can be judged by a single refurbishment date. It underwent an extensive update in May 2024, adding Aquamar Kitchen, an evening pizzeria, an expanded ice-cream offer and refreshed Penthouse Suites and public rooms. A second, more comprehensive reinspiration is scheduled for October 2026, when every stateroom is due to be redesigned and further public-space changes will be made.

For anyone booking in 2026, that makes the calendar part of the product. A September sailing is the well-maintained, food-rich Marina that exists now. A sailing after the October dry dock should reflect another substantial step forward, but the sensible approach is to confirm the work has completed before assuming every announced change is available.

Quick booking decision

Marina is an excellent choice when you want a food-led ship with more accommodation price points than Allura. Inside and ocean-view cabins can make sense on intensive itineraries, while veranda and suite categories give passengers room to spend more where the cabin matters.

The biggest booking mistake in 2026 would be ignoring the October dry dock. If two departures sit on opposite sides of it, treat them as meaningfully different products. The itinerary may still make the earlier sailing better, but the comparison should be explicit.

The October 2026 reinspiration is the key fact

The scheduled October 2026 work goes beyond replacing carpets. Every stateroom is due to be redesigned, while public spaces receive a broader refresh. Announced additions include Founders Bar, Chef’s Studio and the Bakery at Baristas, alongside refreshed specialty restaurants.

That creates a rare situation where the same ship can have two different value propositions within weeks. Travellers booking before the work should not pay for improvements they will not receive. Travellers booking after it should still verify the completion date and exact venue list because dry-dock projects can change.

Scale and layout

At 66,084 GT and 1,250 guests, Marina is similar in passenger count to Allura but arranged on an older platform. Eleven passenger and public decks keep the ship manageable. Decks 5 and 6 contain many dining and evening spaces, accommodation dominates the middle decks, and Decks 12, 14, 15 and 16 carry the pool, Culinary Center, spa, Library and outdoor recreation.

The layout has a reassuring logic. It is large enough for different restaurants and lounges but not so large that every evening becomes a logistical exercise. The main walking issue is fore-to-aft distance, so a centrally placed cabin can be a better upgrade than one category higher at an inconvenient end.

Cabins: more variety than Allura

Marina’s 624 suites and staterooms include inside, ocean-view, veranda, Concierge and multiple suite levels. That matters because it gives itinerary-first travellers a way to control cost. A well-located ocean-view can be a smart choice on a Baltic or Mediterranean route where the ship is in port for most daylight hours.

Penthouse Suites were comprehensively refurbished in 2024, but the planned October 2026 project extends change much more broadly across the accommodation. If your cruise falls after the dry dock, check the new deck plan and room imagery before relying on an older review. If it falls before, judge the room you are actually buying rather than the announced future version.

Dining: Marina still justifies its foodie reputation

The core specialty restaurants include Jacques, Red Ginger, Polo Grill and Toscana, supported by the Grand Dining Room and Terrace Café. The 2024 work added Aquamar Kitchen for wellness-oriented breakfast and lunch and turned Waves into an evening al fresco pizzeria. These restaurants are complimentary within the fare, although reservation access and preferred times still reward early planning.

Marina and Riviera also have a Culinary Center, one of the clearest reasons to choose this generation over Regatta. Passengers can take hands-on classes rather than merely watch demonstrations. For someone who views food as part of the destination experience, that can make a sea day as memorable as a port day.

Bars, lounges and evenings

Martinis, Horizons, the Grand Bar and the casino provide a traditional sequence of evening spaces. Entertainment includes production shows, live music and guest performers rather than headline theme-park technology. The ship feels busiest around dinner and show changes, then settles quickly.

The planned Founders Bar addition after October 2026 should give the ship another contemporary cocktail anchor. Until that work is completed, do not read post-refit descriptions as though they apply to earlier departures.

Pool, spa and wellness

Marina has a central pool with two whirlpool spas, plus the Aquamar Spa + Vitality Center, fitness facilities and outdoor track. The deck plan also places the Library and quieter Sanctuary area high on the ship, so there is a useful separation between social pool space and calmer indoor retreats.

The pool deck is designed for relaxation, not family attractions. That becomes even more coherent now that new bookings are adults-only.

Adults-only and onboard atmosphere

New reservations from 7 January 2026 require guests to be 18 or older. Current terms say earlier bookings with under-18 travellers are honoured for departures through the 2026 departure year, so a small transitional overlap remains possible.

Marina never devoted large areas to children anyway. The formal rule therefore strengthens an existing atmosphere rather than forcing a radical redesign. Expect conversation, food, enrichment, spa time and port planning to dominate the day.

Your World Included and the real budget

Specialty dining, shipboard gratuities and Wi-Fi are included, as are many non-alcoholic drinks and other amenities. Current bookings also choose between wine and beer by the glass during lunch and dinner restaurant hours or a shore excursion credit.

Marina can therefore compare surprisingly well with a premium line once gratuities, Wi-Fi and several specialty dinners are added to the competitor’s fare. Southampton and UK convenience

Marina has selected Southampton-linked departures in 2026, including British Isles and Northern Europe work around the summer. This does not make it a permanent UK ship, but it creates valuable opportunities to try Oceania without flying.

The timing is especially relevant because some Southampton departures fall before the October reinspiration. If UK convenience is the main attraction, that can still be the right trade. If the ship itself is the priority, a later post-refit departure may be more appealing even if it requires a flight.

Accessibility

Selected accessible staterooms are available, but confirm the exact cabin rather than relying on a generic accessibility label. Shower design, turning space, door widths, proximity to lifts and balcony thresholds can materially change suitability.

The ship’s 1,250-guest scale is easier than a mainstream mega-ship but not as compact as Regatta. For a mobility-limited traveller who values short distances above venue breadth, the smaller ship may still be preferable.

Marina before and after October 2026

Before the scheduled October work, Marina should be judged as a 2011 ship that has already benefited from the substantial May 2024 refurbishment. Aquamar Kitchen, the evening pizzeria and refreshed Penthouse Suites are real present-day strengths, while some standard accommodation still reflects the earlier design. A good pre-refit fare on a strong itinerary can therefore be excellent value.

After the planned reinspiration, the appeal shifts. Redesigned staterooms and refreshed public spaces should narrow the visual gap with newer ships, while Marina keeps the Culinary Center and its established restaurant layout. The key word is should. Book on the basis of confirmed post-dry-dock information once the work has happened, not solely on announcements made beforehand.

Which Marina cabin offers the best value?

The existence of inside and ocean-view rooms is a genuine advantage over a veranda-led new ship. On a port-intensive cruise, an ocean-view can preserve natural light while releasing a meaningful part of the budget for flights, hotels or shore days. A veranda becomes more persuasive on scenic routes and longer voyages where private outdoor space will be used repeatedly.

Penthouse Suites deserve separate consideration because their 2024 refurbishment means they are already ahead of some standard cabins in the renewal cycle. After October 2026, recheck that distinction. Cabin value can change when the base accommodation is redesigned, so older reviews and photographs become less useful.

Food on a long Marina cruise

Marina’s dining programme scales particularly well to longer itineraries. Four established specialty restaurants, the Grand Dining Room, Terrace Café, Aquamar Kitchen and casual alternatives create enough variation for repeat visits to feel deliberate rather than necessary. The Culinary Center adds another layer because classes can follow the regions visited.

Food-focused passengers should still avoid over-scheduling. Leaving some evenings open for the Grand Dining Room or an early meal after a long port day makes the cruise feel less regimented. The benefit of included specialty dining is freedom from surcharge calculations, not an obligation to fill every night with a reservation.

Marina versus Riviera

Riviera is the obvious alternative because the ships share the same basic scale and philosophy. When Marina’s October 2026 work is not relevant, itinerary, cabin price and embarkation convenience should decide. During the transition, Riviera can be the simpler booking because you are not trying to work out which version of Marina you will receive.

After Marina’s reinspiration has been completed and verified, the balance may shift again. Do not assume that automatically makes Marina superior. A sister ship on a better route remains the stronger holiday, especially on a brand where destination time is central to the proposition.

Who should choose Allura instead?

Choose Allura when modern baseline accommodation is a priority and you do not need Marina’s inside or ocean-view price points. Its standard veranda rooms and bathrooms are newer by design, not merely refurbished, and the newest generation has a more contemporary overall feel.

Choose Marina when the itinerary is stronger, the cabin mix produces better value or the Culinary Center is especially important. After the 2026 work, the comparison should become closer, but the ships will still represent different generations rather than identical experiences.

Before you book Oceania Marina

• Check whether your sailing is before or after the scheduled October 2026 reinspiration.
• Do not pay for a veranda automatically on a port-heavy itinerary; compare inside and ocean-view value.
• Reserve must-have specialty restaurants and Culinary Center classes as early as your booking allows.
• If sailing from Southampton, compare the convenience saving with any premium attached to the departure.
• For post-refit cruises, recheck the deck plan after the dry dock rather than relying on an older cabin map.
