Norwegian Aqua is the first Prima Plus ship and the strongest current NCL choice for families who want new hardware without moving to Royal Caribbean’s largest resort ships. She enlarges the Prima platform and introduces the Aqua Slidecoaster, Glow Court and a broader family activity offer.

The official Norwegian Aqua page lists 3,565 guests, while Norwegian describes the ship as the first in its Prima Plus evolution.

The Aqua Slidecoaster is the headline feature

The two-person attraction combines powered launches with a waterslide route. It replaces the race track used on Prima and gives Aqua a more family-focused upper deck.

It is a genuine fleet distinction, but capacity and operating conditions can create waits. Families should treat it as one part of the ship rather than plan every sea day around repeated rides.

More space than Prima – but still a busy resort ship

Aqua is longer and larger than Prima, with expanded public spaces, more outdoor seating and a larger Haven. The extra capacity also brings more passengers.

Ocean Boulevard, infinity pools and Indulge Food Hall retain the successful Prima ideas. The ship still depends heavily on reservations, app planning and knowing which venues are included.

Dining distinctions

Sukhothai introduces Thai speciality dining, while Planterie adds plant-based food inside Indulge. Familiar NCL venues such as Hudson’s, The Commodore Room, The Local, Surfside, Cagney’s, Le Bistro and Onda remain part of the mix.

The complimentary food-hall and main-dining options are strong enough that a family does not need a speciality package every night. Free at Sea meals are best used for restaurants that would otherwise feel too expensive.

Families should check whether children are ordering from a children’s menu, using package credit or incurring a cover charge at each venue.

Glow Court and family activity

Glow Court is a digital sports complex that changes from daytime games to evening entertainment. It provides indoor flexibility when weather affects the open deck.

The waterpark, pools, slides, sports and youth clubs make Aqua a stronger sea-day choice than Star or Prima for active school-age children.

The ship is less suitable for adults seeking a calm pool deck. Vibe Beach Club and The Haven create quieter paid or restricted alternatives, but the standard public areas remain family-oriented.

Cabins and The Haven

Aqua offers Solo, Inside, Oceanview, Balcony, Club Balcony, suite and Haven accommodation, including large family and duplex options.

The Haven is extensive and can protect guests from the busiest public spaces. It also creates a very different holiday from the standard fare, so comparison with a premium line may be sensible at Haven prices.

A normal balcony remains the best balance for many families. Connecting-room availability, bed configuration and proximity to youth areas should be checked before paying for a higher label.

Who should choose Aqua?

Choose Aqua for current NCL family hardware, the Slidecoaster, strong casual dining and a warm-weather itinerary with enough sea time to use the ship.

Choose Luna when its dates, Miami itinerary or entertainment are better. The sisters are too similar to justify a large premium based on name alone.

CruisePing would choose Aqua over Prima for active children and choose Prima for adults who prefer design and dining to a larger activity zone.
